Rashidi Yekini The Legend

He got past the defender
Was chased by the keeper to the corner
There was no stopping that striker
He took a well placed shot from there
Goal by Yekini the striker
A goal king and proven performer

Penalty kick to Nigeria
To take it was the big strong striker
Pointing to the top corner
There, he placed it again and again
From the spot, Yekini was a master
37 goals for Nigeria

World Cup America, we cannot forget
Yekini scored and clutched the net
Our world cup’s first and probably his last
That goal will in our memory last
There are not many to match his feat
Years after his feat his feat non can beat

Strikers come and go as legends do
Yekini is a legend true and true
A philanthropist and maybe a recluse
Rashidi Yekini in decline we abuse
Into a sad shell he reclined
To meet with fate common with mankind

Yekini was a star of two World Cups for Nigeria. He never failed to perform. Yes, there were missed sitters  but it changes nothing. In his death, we remember him, but shouldn't we have done more? He might have earned good pay in his hay day yet he died broke. The NFF has a duty to see to it that our veteran players get taken care off in old age. They should not suffer after giving much to fatherland.

We have not had another striker in the mold of Yekini. He scored a record 37 goals from only 58 games. His closest contender has scored 23 from more games and is already considered past his prime. Footballing traditions hold that, countries should produce similar players over and over again. Nigeria though is yet to produce another striker to fill the boot of this legend. A task before our new foreign technical director and national teams scouts.

Adieu Rashidi Yekini! Good Bye Rashidi! We pray the good Lord, that your soul rest in peace.

City Win Edgy EPL Title

A certain Italian Galileo by name made a contraption that swings this way and that way in order to tell the time. That machine was named the pendulum; oscillating hence and thence on a never ending mission. What inspired Galileo though was not gravity or some other story you might have heard, it was his dream of a football match that swung this way and that that inspired him to make such a device. Today, the EPL season of the 2011/2012 proves in the end that the pendulum learnt a thing or two from the beautiful game. The EPL has been touted by its promoters as the greatest show on earth. Sometimes it does not offer much sound football that some really savvy spectators might revel in but make no mistake; it never fails to thrill with excitement. Every season, twenty teams compete for the trophy where every match in the 380 game series is a contest for three points. Some teams do not chase just the three points though, they chase the ultimate prize: the league title. Failure to pic...

AMNESTY: IN WHOSE INTEREST?

The Third Mainland Bridge is Africa’s and Nigeria’s longest bridge. Its economic importance and significance to Lagos and indeed to Nigeria cannot be wished away. It was shocking and worrisome to learn that terrorist organisation Boko Haram have come south to Lagos and made the bridge its target.  The sect has been responsible for numerous deaths and destruction of property worth hundreds of millions in Naira. A lot of persons have been displaced as a result of the wicked acts of this sect. The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has had a torrid time dealing with the menace of the group and has thus far remained unsuccessful. Boko Haram is an ideological organization with hard line terrorist operations. It wants or at least is said to want a Sharia state all over northern Nigeria. Having links with other terrorist organizations including Al Qaeda is proof of its outsourcing capabilities. In terms of efficient organization and impact, the sect’s attacks have bee...

Boko Haram, Thisday Bombings and More

Terror group, Boko Haram struck yesterday in Abuja and Kaduna leaving as many as 7 persons dead and some others wounded from coordinated bomb attacks. Influential daily, Thisday the target of both attacks had their Abuja and Kaduna offices rocked by explosions in the morning of yesterday.  The group went ahead to release a video in which it defended its attack on the newspaper house. The Islamist sect which forbids western education is intent on sending a clear message to us in the media urging us not to misrepresent them. According to the groups’ hitherto thought to be captured spokesman Abu Qaka, Boko Haram is not happy about the level of misrepresentation from the media whom he accused of taking sides with the government. According to an interview granted to the organization from another news site http://premiumtimesng.com/news/4843-boko_haram_speaks_why_we_attacked_thisday.html the spokesman insisted that he is alive and free contrary to the reports making rounds in the ...
