Win the Jollof War

Who will win the Jollof War For the past 100 years, Nigeria has been at war with her anglophone West African neighbour Ghana. The contest though is not the usual football tussle at the Africa Cup of Nations or a World Cup qualifier. Nigeria and Ghana have been at loggerheads over the originator of Jollof Rice. For hundred years both countries slugged it out until Wikipedia finally settled the score and awarded that to Senegal. Both countries soon invented another competition: Who makes better Jollof Rice? In case you are reading from somewhere in Europe or Asia you might want to see this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jollof_rice. There have been music videos and all sorts of contests about who makes better Jollof Rice since Senegal was adjudged to be the originator of Jollof Rice. Nigerian men and Ghanaian men would argue back and forth as would the women. However, CNN's Richard Quest came to Nigeria on Quest means business and posed the question to Nigeria's Informatio...

City Win Edgy EPL Title

A certain Italian Galileo by name made a contraption that swings this way and that way in order to tell the time. That machine was named the pendulum; oscillating hence and thence on a never ending mission. What inspired Galileo though was not gravity or some other story you might have heard, it was his dream of a football match that swung this way and that that inspired him to make such a device. Today, the EPL season of the 2011/2012 proves in the end that the pendulum learnt a thing or two from the beautiful game. The EPL has been touted by its promoters as the greatest show on earth. Sometimes it does not offer much sound football that some really savvy spectators might revel in but make no mistake; it never fails to thrill with excitement. Every season, twenty teams compete for the trophy where every match in the 380 game series is a contest for three points. Some teams do not chase just the three points though, they chase the ultimate prize: the league title. Failure to pic...

AC Milan's Failed Season

For AC Milan, the 2011/2012 Season began with high hopes. The most successful club in the world were defending champions and the year’s objective was to win another league title so as to move inch closer to that second league star. To win titles in football, you need a combination of factors, quality players to start and quality players to back them up. You need a mixture of experience and the strength of youth as well as a dynamic manager who has workable tactics and more importantly is able to motivate his charges always. What’s more, you need luck and absence of injuries in key moments. For Milan, there was no shortage of quality players. Zlatan Ibrahimovic would lead the attack while the Brazilian duo of Pato and Robinho would alternate around him. Seasoned campaigner Antonio Cassano was to provide guile and creativity behind them. In midfield though, Milan was short of combativeness. Marc Van Bommel who joined mid last season is already 34. Massimo Ambrosini, Genaro Gattu...

Guardiola leaves the Blaugrana bald. Upon becoming Barcelona manager, Pep had a full hairline. Meet Pep Short for Josep Whose achievements are not short His stay in Camp Nou now cut short By no other than Josep Guardiola Declaring his days there over Is he quitting when the ovation is loudest? More Musings

Arsenal striker Gervinho has blamed Fernando Torres for Drogba’s penalty miss at the AFCON 2012 Final between his Ivory Coast and Zambia. He said the Spaniard’s loss of confidence is a contagious disease that has infected Didier Drogba and made him miss the all important spot kick when it mattered most. He advised the Ivorian hit man to request for separate training days at Cob ham but warned also that the Torres bug may have infected Andreas Villas Boas whose Chelsea team can’t find a rhythm these days. Onto Chelsea matters, Abrahimovic had a meeting with his well paid underperformers to determine whether or not the crisis in Greece has affected any player’s income and thus a deep in performance on the pitch. The manager had two excuses, the AFCON 2012 which is poorly timed and should be altogether scrapped has 4 of his most important players are out including Drogba and Kalou with Ivory Coast, Essien in spirit with Ghana and Mikel who can’t do well because Nigerians are not happy f...

Play Talk

John Terry has announced to the shock and utter amazement of Chelsea fans worldwide that he will end his contract come summer of this year. He will sign for Nigerian side Enyimba FC of Aba in a bid to prove to the Ferdinands and by extension England fans that he is not racist. Before and after each match J.T. will hug all the Enyimba players and kiss them on the face as he really loves the African. Sepp Blatter has welcomed the move describing the inability of Anton Ferdinand and J.T. to shake hands after the incident as unfortunate. Enyimba fans and followers of the Nigerian Premier League though are optimistic about the chances of seeing former England and Chelsea captain in Enyimba’s blue jersey. There is a serious jostle as a result of this development by Nigerian companies to become Enyimba’s sponsors. The Nigerian Premier League on the other hand has had their offices inundated with calls from companies in Indonesia and China all seeking to sponsor the league. England boss,...
