It is no longer news that Portuguese born football manager Jose Mourinho is now the manager of popular English football club Manchester United. Congratulations Manchester United and Mourinho.
I am wrong. I said months ago that he may never get a top job considering his poor result at Chelsea the second time and how he blamed his players after each loss. It did not make sense that a top club would immediately jump on and hire him at the time. But this is football.
I said it here and even on national TV that United should not hire the special one. Well, they have yielded to media pressure and appointed him. More football drama will be played out this coming season.
Wait a minute, the number of high profile managers in one league alone is suddenly curious. Pep Guardiola, Antonio Conte, Arsene Wenger, Jurngen Klopp, and Claudio Ranieri are all going to be on the side lines next season.
Now if you add Mauricio Pochetino, Slaven Bilic, Koeman, Francisco Guidolin and newly appointed Walter Mazzari, you will find out that the Barclay's Premier League of next season 2016/2017 is going to be one of the most competitive ever.
You will also expect these managers to sign a multitude of talent all in a bid to fulfill the season's objective whatever that may be. However, I dare to say that one of these highly accomplished managers or more will fail to succeed. We saw Steve Mclaren and Rafa Benitez fail to steer Newcastle out of the relegation quagmire despite spending over 40million Pounds Sterling on transfers. Aston Villa also spent big but were first to be relegated. Not even Remi Garde could save them from the drop.
Leicester City's success this season is probably a clear indication that spending too much money does not guarantee football success nor does hiring the best manager guarantee a title let alone continental appearance.
Manchester United succumbed to media pressure in hiring the special one who lost his dressing room at both Real Madrid and Chelsea after a poor run of results. If there is any manager desperate to rewrite history and reassert himself it is Jose Mourinho. If there is any manager who can self destruct when things do not go his way, it is also the special one. He has arrived at a very special place: the theatre of dreams. What dreams would he fulfill there? Time will tell.
