SURE-P

What a story we are about to read
Of sudden change, lies and half truths, please read
How on a New Year’s Day our people were greeted
Not with smiles or good news but were insulted
Here insults do not go unanswered
Not in this clime or time, it had to be answered
Men and women took to the streets in protest
Peacefully the new regime to contest
They pressed painfully and hard for 9 days long
In unison, sang a protest song
Brought thence by one need
Refused to be intimidated or bullied
Were never discouraged by the fallen
No one said victory would be sudden
Did those leaders betray, were they under duress?
In the heat of the struggle, asked us to recess
But the struggle had taken a new broadness
It had gone beyond the anticipated game of chess
The cronies appearing on No Truth Available
Proved repeatedly that they weren't reliable
In the face of this chaos were many silent governors
A clueless president, too many confusing ministers and actors
Many a tale have been told
How for 30 pieces of silver some Judas sold
More empty promises were promised
A promise was promised to keep the promised
SURE-P the solution to an impoverished people
Surely this would be different my people
What purpose hath guns in a peaceful procession?
An orderly people meeting with such aggression
The mightier declared truce despite the injustice
An anti-climax to an episode of jungle justice
A few weeks later, it is the same story we are about to read
Sudden change, lies and half truths, those we now read

AMNESTY: IN WHOSE INTEREST?

The Third Mainland Bridge is Africa’s and Nigeria’s longest bridge. Its economic importance and significance to Lagos and indeed to Nigeria cannot be wished away. It was shocking and worrisome to learn that terrorist organisation Boko Haram have come south to Lagos and made the bridge its target.  The sect has been responsible for numerous deaths and destruction of property worth hundreds of millions in Naira. A lot of persons have been displaced as a result of the wicked acts of this sect. The administration of President Goodluck Jonathan has had a torrid time dealing with the menace of the group and has thus far remained unsuccessful. Boko Haram is an ideological organization with hard line terrorist operations. It wants or at least is said to want a Sharia state all over northern Nigeria. Having links with other terrorist organizations including Al Qaeda is proof of its outsourcing capabilities. In terms of efficient organization and impact, the sect’s attacks have bee...

City Win Edgy EPL Title

A certain Italian Galileo by name made a contraption that swings this way and that way in order to tell the time. That machine was named the pendulum; oscillating hence and thence on a never ending mission. What inspired Galileo though was not gravity or some other story you might have heard, it was his dream of a football match that swung this way and that that inspired him to make such a device. Today, the EPL season of the 2011/2012 proves in the end that the pendulum learnt a thing or two from the beautiful game. The EPL has been touted by its promoters as the greatest show on earth. Sometimes it does not offer much sound football that some really savvy spectators might revel in but make no mistake; it never fails to thrill with excitement. Every season, twenty teams compete for the trophy where every match in the 380 game series is a contest for three points. Some teams do not chase just the three points though, they chase the ultimate prize: the league title. Failure to pic...
