Okorocha is Right.
Dear Nigerians, Imo governor Owelle Rochas Okorocha has done nothing new to appoint a commissioner for happiness.

I have been reading the recent developments in Imo state where Owelle Rochas Okorocha appointed his younger sister as "commissioner for happiness and couples fulfillment."
I immediately burst out laughing. Imo state must be going through the worst time to necessitate this thinking after all, people create solutions to problems or in anticipation of them.
But soon afterwards, I recollected that I had read about Sheikh Maktoum's appointment of a similar minister in Dubai. This prompted me to do a quick study on the concept of ministries of happiness.
Bhutan created a concept known as Gross National Happiness (GNH) in 1979 as they rejected Gross Domestic Progress (GDP) as the only way to measure progress.
Venezuela also created a ministry of Supreme Social Happiness in 2013.
There is a World Happiness Report, it measures the happiness index of nations and reports annually. The United Nations (UN) declared March 20 as the International Day of Happiness.
However, it remains to be seen whether Imo state under Rochas and his sister can properly articulate and deliver happiness to Imo citizens and residents through this new ministry.
A twitter account @MrsOgechiOlolo was quickly setup. The account commended the governor for doing "a good job in commissioning this office". It went on to make a case for the ministry as coming at a timely period when divorce is at an all time high.
To fully demonstrate grasp of her job description the account in its 3rd tweet said:
1. To ensure citizens of Imo state remain happy despite the economic meltdown and Biafran fiasco.
2. To ensure couples in Imo state have a reduced divorce rate and better fulfilled marriages
3. Cater to welfare of the the average Imo indigene.
#GodblessImo.
Nigerians still amused at the new concept immediately began lashing out at the appointment and the ministry created. Others found out the account and began engagements.
Suddenly though, another tweet reads: Let me educate Nigerians on this, for those lacking ignorance. United Arab Emirates has ministers of happiness and they are ahead of us. Read https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minister She added a Wikipedia link to buttress the argument.
This account though is a parody account and has only succeeded in creating both anger and unhappiness. It has also created a huge comic relief at a sad time in Nigeria.
We are truly a happy people for in spite of all the reasons to crumble into depression, we still find a reason to laugh. Thank you for reading. God bless Nigeria.
